Questions people ask
Can someone else set this up as a surprise?
Yes. Whoever creates the gallery controls it, so a family member or friend can set everything up, print the QR code, collect the photos through the party and hand the finished gallery over afterwards. Ownership transfer moves the gallery into the recipient's account once the surprise is over, so they end up holding it themselves rather than depending on you to keep it alive. Until then nothing about the gallery gives it away — it is reachable only by its link, and you can keep uploads moderated so nothing appears before you want it to. In practice the usual approach is to create the gallery a week ahead, share the link only with the people helping, and put the printed code out on the night. Guests upload as normal, and the person being surprised sees the whole thing at once.
Do guests need the app to view the photos?
There is no app — for viewing or for uploading. Guests open a link in their phone browser and can either add photos or scroll through what everyone else has contributed. That matters most for the guests least likely to install anything: at a milestone birthday the people holding the oldest and best photographs are frequently the ones who will not download something new to share them, and this removes the step entirely. Viewing needs nothing beyond the link. Uploading asks only for a name, so you can tell later who added what. It behaves the same on iPhone and Android because it is an ordinary web page, and it keeps working on whatever phone a guest replaces theirs with. If you would prefer to check photos before they are visible, moderation holds each upload until you approve it.
How long do the photos stay available?
For as long as your plan keeps the gallery open — but the more useful answer is that it does not have to matter. Downloading is not limited by plan: on every tier, including Free, you can open the Photos tab, click Download All and have a ZIP of the full-resolution originals emailed to you. Do that once, soon after the event, and the collection lives on your own drive regardless of what happens to the subscription or the gallery afterwards. Individual photos can be pulled at original, high or medium quality at any time. Beyond that it is your decision when to close things: leave the gallery open so guests keep browsing and adding late photos, stop new uploads but keep it viewable, or close it entirely. Large galleries take a few minutes to generate the ZIP.
